The social division and second-class of women, as an embodiment of social organization of many Eastern societies has become a reality, which often recognized to the fact that this difference in social position comes from nature! This means that women, as a different gender are naturally less than men, and their social existence is the result of that fact.
Sherry Ortner, an American feminist, researcher and writer, said in one of her researches, “The second classes of women is a global truth; this fact has been able to cross boundaries of all cultures”. This text is a clear vision to understanding this social problem that we face.
While we don’t want to go back to women’s history and women’s struggle, but we know that women have been second-class for centuries. The idea of masculinity was a high mindset of all societies, but women parallel with this idea were struggled to achieve social reform and changes.
For years, the feminist movement in Kurdistan has been active; despite efforts of the government, parliament, organizations, but it has not been able to erase an idea of killing women. Life is not seen as a natural right for a female. The killing of women is still hot news of media every day; often few days pass without news of murder a woman.
When can we build an equal society? How long killing women remain as a part of our Kurdish tradition! When women in our society will not live under the hands of males, we will no longer understand the fact that the traditions and minds of our society should not govern our lives!
As long as a percentage of applause and praise is high for the killers, thus we will continue to see and hear more killings. What is important is to be against it and in order to remove this disgusting and inhumane culture; we must condemn it because victims are not far from us!
The fight against the wrong tradition is a many-sided war in which all aspects of society must participate. Ending monopoly and social standards of discrimination, gender duties and gender-clear discrimination and second-class women require intellectual revolution. Firstly, we must change education and individual minds. Secondly, we must not look for solutions on the one side, contrary, we need to go details of the problem and find a structure of this mentality, so that we can fight against it with its own weapons.
At the same time, it is against all the principles of humanity and religion! On the opposing, this murder of women raises the most important questions for everyone, about religion, faith, humanity, and our level of awareness and culture, therefore being against is a moral and human responsibility.
