Those who are against Latin alphabet for writing Kurdish language have several reasons. For example:
Religion reasons:
These type believe that if we do not use Kurdish alphabet (Arabic style) thus reading the holy Quran will be very difficult for next generations, but Indonesia is the biggest Muslim country which use Latin alphabet.
National reasons
They believe that Latin alphabet is Ataturk alphabet and should not use it, but about one hundred languages around the world have used appropriate Latin alphabet.
Language reasons
They are talking about why Kurdish alphabet (Arabic style) is more suit than Latin alphabet.
Does this Kurdish alphabet is Arabic?
Originally this Kurdish alphabet is not Arabic, basically its (Arami- Finiqi) alphabet and despite Arabs many of other nations have used it. When Arabs started to focus on this alphabet, it had not punctuations, later on for behalf of making it to be suit with Arabic language, Abu Asuad Al-dwali added punctuations, and then in order to read the Holy Quran correctly Khalil Ahmad Farahidi added points for letters. The aim of these corrections is to explain that this alphabet has been suited to Arabic language.
The history of using this alphabet belonged to Babatahir Hamadani poems in 1010. We have said that Kurds is one of the nations that adapted his alphabet from Arabic alphabet and has suited with his language, but Kurds have omitted 6 vowels in 28 letters which were not appropriate with its language, instead of them they added 13 letters as (پ، چ، ڕ، ژ، ڤ، گ، ڵ، ه، ۆ، وو، ێ، وێ).
The Kurdish alphabets are:
ئـ، ا، ب، پ، ت، ج، چ، ح، خ، د، ر، ڕ، ز، ژ، س، ش، ع، غ، ف، ڤ، ق، ک، گ، ل، ڵ، م، ن، هـ، ه، و، ۆ، وو، ی، ێ، وێ
Some believe that because of Kurdish language belongs to Indo-Iranian and this belongs to Indo-European therefore Latin alphabet is more suit to write Kurdish language. This is not the fact because letters unrelated to language, letter merely a sign of expressing a sound. As I said earlier Sweden can write by Kurdish letter because Kurdish language can express sounds that have in Sweden language. But the question is do Latin letters that used by some of Kurds can be able to express the entire Kurdish sounds?
At present Latin alphabets that have been sued by Kurds in North consist of 31 letters which are;
A, B, C, Ç, D, E, Ê, F, G, H, I, Î, J, K, L, M, N, O, Q, P, R, S, Ş,T, U, Û,V, W, X, Y, Z
Thus we can notice that Kurdish alphabets have less than problems that have in Latin wirings. Finally I do know, what is the reason that somebody proclaim of withdrawing of letters that have been used for thousand years and will choose another alphabet that have more problems than Kurdish alphabet?
