The catastrophe events that have happened throughout history left influences on the political situation on Kurdistan while the Kurdish nation away from all those happenings that made changes in the area. The First World War has happened among German, Austria, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria on one side and France, Britain, Russia, Serbia, Italy, America, Japan and Romania on the other side.
Under the name of (Jihad), the ottomans made a tremendous propaganda in order to use Kurdish people from Mousel province and northern Kurdistan against Russia in the First World War; however, most of the well-known Kurdish religious men were against the Turkish propaganda for the sake of not using Kurd as an instrument against Russia.
Basil Nekton was the Russian ambassador to Iran. He wrote many books, he also mentioned Kurdish religious men’s attitude in some of his dairies who asked Kurdish people to not take part in that war. Moreover, he said the ottomans declared that all the Muslims must fight arm in arm against Britain, Russia and France in this holly Jihad.
Nekton as a witness focused on the ottomans how to agitate Kurds due to fighting under the name of Jihad, on the other hand, the Kurds elite Sheikhs were against the ottomans idea, for instance, (Sheikh Baba) was lived in Mahabad surroundings who was a respectful and valuable person as Nekton mentioned, he was totally against the Turkish declaration and said Kurdish shouldn’t participate in this war, for that reason the Turkish authority executed him in (1914-1915).
He also mentioned the name some of the Kurdish famous religious men’s attitude in Mousel province opposite the ottomans message such as (Abu-Bakr Afandi) in Erbil, (Muhammad Afandi) Koya, (Abdulqader Afandi) from Biara (Hawraman province) and (Taha Afandi) from Hakari, these personalities believed that the war which declared by the ottomans in order to participate the Kurdish people has not a legitimacy and totally against the Muslim or Sharia laws.
Those personalities did not permit the ottomans to use Kurds as an instrument and contribute in a bloody war between ottomans and Russia; this attitude becomes a shining point throughout history of our nation and it needs collecting more documents and articles in order to concentrate more on the historical stages that are required to our nation.
