People have to think about their health by taking care of their clearness and using healthy food, having knowledge about health status requires learning and education. Education has a direct relation to the health position, livelihood, better life and protecting people from sickness.

Since most of the current diseases are epidemic which they transmit from one to another, the community has to be aware of their protection of the sickness. At that time, society’s culture is needed and government responsibility of health status in Sulaimani as well.

Concerning the personal proficiency and experience in Sulaimani, people have gotten guidance from their forefathers, also, some of them focused on the religious principles to medicate the patients or using natural herbs. Likewise, psychologically people have visited the wizards to make them pray and giving them phylactery, particularly, the women. Furthermore, sensible people worked as doctors and nurses to treat the illness. The disease types of that time were Typhoo, diarrhea, vomiting, fever, plague and smallpox; these infections have killed a countless number of people in (1831).

It is worthy to say Sulaimani’s population consisted of Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Armani and Yarsan, all the entities have treated illnesses without differentiation, for instance, the Christians who cured Sulaimani’s citizens were (Hanifa Mouse’s spouse and Jamila wife of Matte), correspondingly, (Eshlo Boutros) was a Jewish who worked as nurse and midwife in Sulaimani hospitals.

Furthermore, in the early years, there were proficient surgeons who they specialized in rejoining the broken bones and joints like (Haji Rizgar, Faraj Aga, etc.) In (1918-1919) Major Noel had brought a doctor to Sulaimani for the first time and used Rushdie military school as a hospital, later the British doctors instructed Sulaimani citizens to teach them Medicine and the British doctors permitted them to work.

In the past thirties century, the Iraqi royal government had sent Arab doctors to Sulaimani occasionally, but after the Second World War. Another doctor who worked from (1941-1943) in Sulaimani hospital was (Nassuri Abdulkarim Alaka), he was very supportive to the poor folks at that time, his clinic was free on the Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Due to know about the fatal disease of six decades ago a report had discovered the death tolls and depicted the illness types in Sulaimani from (1952), whereas the number of the population was (50) thousands, the fowling lines show the number of the victims and the disease types:

Pneumonia (69), Malaria (66), Anemia (57), Heart disease (34), Nephritis (30), Fever (23), Tuberculosis (23), Dysentery (17) and anonymous diseases were (264).

In (1956) the first children’s hospital was built in Chwar Bakh neighborhood, later mobilized to the current place and changed its name to (Doctor Jamal Hospital) because this respectful pediatrician has granted more to the children of this city within five decades.

In (1959) a well-known and charitable person Abdullah Lutfi has created a surgical operation hospital in Chwar Bakh.

Besides, lots of hospitals have instructed in this city like Ali Kamal, Ali Naji, republican hospital, etc.

If we make a comparison among Sulaimani and other Iraqi cities, big differences are seen because the number of the clinics and the doctors of this city were lesser than others, however, the number of the patients in Sulaimani was fewer than other Iraq cities.

The reason behind the healthiness of individuals in Sulaimani belongs to either people who live in the mountain areas or for the sake of revolutions and the calamities they couldn’t visit the hospitals. Except for the channels passed through the valleys to the edge of the city and the channels were not covered till the end of the nineties of the last century.

Ultimately, different types of seasonal mosquitos would appear in the city. For solving that problem, the smoking cars came to the neighborhoods in summer and spring to spread its smoking to kill those kinds of mosquitos, that kind of smoking has a special memory to the child of that era.
